Background to Homeopathic Remedies
Homeopathy has
been widely used throughout the world for more than 200 years. It is a system
of healing that focuses on the individual, concentrating on treating physical
and emotional symptoms, to give long lasting benefits. Homeopathy can be safely
used alongside most conventional medicines.
The therapy is based on the theory of treating “like
with like”. Homeopathic remedies are highly diluted natural substances that if
given to a healthy person, in an undiluted state, would produce the same symptoms
the medicine is prescribed for. It is believed that homeopathic treatments work by gently boosting
the natural energy of the body, and are very safe, even for pregnant women and
sensitive patients.
Homeopath’s claim their remedies are a
unique, potentised energy medicine, drawn from the plant, mineral and animal
worlds. There is no danger of addiction or toxicity. They are diluted to such a degree
that not a single molecule of the original substance can be detected.
Homeopaths, like other naturopathic practitioners, treat
the patient by taking into account a range of physical, emotional and
lifestyle factors in order to prescribe the right course of treatment
Homeopathy was ‘discovered’ in 1796 by Dr Samuel
Hahnemann, who developed the scientific and philosophical foundations of this
gentler way of healing. The scientific principles he developed form the basis
of successful homeopathic practice today.
