      Raspberry leaf is used by herbal practitioners to prepare for childbirth, as an astringent and anti-diarrhoeal.

      Raspberry leaf can be used for:

      Preparing the uterus for childbirth

      Encouraging milk flow in breast feeding

      Menstrual cramps

      Heavy menstrual bleeding

      Diarrhoea

      Mouth ulcers

      Inflammation of the mouth and throat, such as tonsillitis

      Precautions

      Use in the final trimester of pregnancy only. Seek advice if breast feeding. Avoid if salicylate sensitive. Long term use should be avoided.

      Active compounds

      1 – 2% organic acids of which 90% is citric acid, tannins, flavonoids, glycosides including quercetin, pectins and sugar.

      Raspberry leaf has long been used to strengthen and tone the uterine muscles in preparation for childbirth, assisting contractions and reducing the likelihood of haemorrhage.  It can be used in the treatment of menstrual pain, by easing cramps.  It is useful in the treatment of diarrhoea and heavy menstrual bleeding due to its astringent qualities.  Raspberry leaf can be used as a gargle to soothe painful inflammations of the mouth and throat. 

      Tincture dose

      Adult dose:                  1.5 - 4mls three times a day.  

      Children’s dose:          0.7 – 1.4mls three times a day.

      Based on a ratio of herb to alcohol of 1:2
